Team CoolDrive launches into 2016

Categories:

Team CoolDrive is the latest V8 Supercar team to launch their 2016 campaign. The #21 car out of the Brad Jones Racing stable has a new name, a fresh look and a different engineering lineup heading into the season ahead.

Tim Blanchard will be driving a relatively new chassis when he takes over ‘Alice’, the Freightliner Racing chassis which was debuted at Darwin in 2015. The car has proven speed, claiming a number of podium positions in its time with the team.

Wally Storey moves from Jason Bright’s #8 car, to co-engineer the Team CoolDrive Commodore with Tony Woodward, who continues on the #21 car. Combined they will bring vast experience and new ideas to the table, with the goal to get Tim cemented in the V8 Supercar Series.

Blanchard has spent the last couple of days in the Albury workshop, giving him the opportunity to look at car preparation, complete seat fittings and spend time with the team who are busily preparing for the test day on the 22nd of February.

Tim:
‘Brad and the team have made me feel very welcome. Wally (Storey) is easily one of the most experienced engineers in the field so it’s fantastic that he is stepping up to work on my car. It shows the team are eager to solidify my spot in the championship.’

‘I’m going into the season ahead looking to get consistent results. I know it will take time to get to the front so the expectations are set accordingly. I’m looking forward to the challenge the year ahead will bring.’

‘The cars are competitive, with all of them achieving top ten results and podiums throughout the 2015 season. From the feedback I’ve had, people are excited to see what I can do in the Team CoolDrive car so it’s without a doubt that I’m happy to be on board.’

SHERRIN RACING TAKES AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Categories:

16 November 2015

The Sherrin Rentals Racing team has claimed a host of accolades at the final round of the 2015 Australian Manufacturers Championship *held at Sydney Motorsport Park at the weekend), including the prestigious Australian Production Car Championships.

Alongside the ‘big trophy’ – awarded to Grant Sherrin in the #18 Sherrin Rentals Racing BMW135i – the team also took home the Class B Australian Production Car Championship (Grant Sherrin), the Class B Australian Endurance Championship (Grant Sherrin), the Amchamps Teams Award (Grant and Iain Sherrin), and the Class B victory in today’s Australian 4 Hour race (Grant and Iain Sherrin) for a total trophy haul of 7 between the two drivers.

The victory did not come easy, with a big week of repairs following damage to the #18 at the Winton 300 last week, followed up with two seized turbo wastegates over Friday and Saturday, plus a host of gremlins related to the Winton damage. At the same time, the team was reeling from the fact that the #19 Sherrin Rentals Racing BMW135i suffered a weekend-ending crash during Friday practice with Michael Sherrin at the wheel – whilst the car was unable to be repaired at the track for the Australian 4 Hour, Michael Sherrin emerged relatively unscathed.

MOLLY TAYLOR MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST ARC WIN

Categories: Tags:

Sydney’s Molly Taylor has made Australian motorsport history, taking her first outright win in the Australian Rally Championship, and becoming the first woman ever to win a round of the series.

Taylor, 27, and experienced Perth-based co-driver Bill Hayes did battle with time penalties and a fragile car (Renault Clio R3), as well as some serious competition, before taking the win in this weekend’s National Capital Rally in Canberra (May 15-17). The win puts the pair at the top of the championship points tally after the second round of the 2015 series.

“It’s not bad,” Taylor said, smiling broadly. “I have to admit my first outright win does feel pretty good! It’s always good to win, obviously, but I don’t think of myself as being the first woman to win a round. I’m out there to be the first driver home, irrespective of my gender.”

Hi-Tec Oils Claims Toowoomba Speedway Naming Rights

Categories:

Australian based lubricants company, Hi-Tec Oils, has signed on as naming rights sponsor for the re-birthed Toowoomba Speedway, now Hi-Tec Oils Speedway.

The Charlton based venue is currently undergoing an extensive renovation after coming under the umbrella of the same company that assumed the management of Sydney Speedway last season, and with almost $1million being invested in the upgrade, Hi-Tec Oils CEO, George Gambino, was ardent in partnering with the new management and their vision.

“Hi-Tec Oils held the venue naming rights under the previous management, but when we saw what the new owners were about to invest, we didn’t hesitate to continue our support. It make sense for us, as we’ve recently appointed a new rep in the Toowoomba area and already have a great relationship with the new management through other areas of business.”
